I actually wrote this song back when I was 19 years old. I was contemplating leaving the "stable" life to leave to go on the road with the rock band. I kind of wanted the girl I was dating to help me make a decision to stay, but the guys in the band wanted me to go out West to "audition" with a booking agency out in Denver with no other bookings in sight. Talk about crazy! Well, the girl cut me loose and I took the gamble, but this song is about what I was feeling when I was still in "limbo". I guess I'm hoping someone out there will be able to take this song and "plug in" their own scenario they can relate to, whether it's enlisting in military service or going off to college or whatever.

"TIME TO REST MY BRAIN"

My radio is dead and I can't call you on the phone
Something in my head cries out for you when I'm alone
I've been waiting all this time for freedom of depress
The bills aren't paid, but I'm ready to leave for a chance of some success

I don't know where you are going
All I know is it's insane
Give me time to think it over
Give me time to rest my brain

Why can't you give me the time of day you're planning to arrive?
Must you be so shy at first—I'm only 25
I'm not really all that old—you're as young as you feel
Grandma Moses hear my cry—I plead insanity

I don't know where you are going
All I know is it's insane
Give me time to think it over
Give me time to rest my brain

Instrumental section

I don't know where you are going
All I know is it's insane
Give me time to think it over
Give me time to rest my brain

I can hear the whistle blow - it tells me when to stop
Triple lives can lead to death when you're living at the top
Lifting weights you've never done—you could break your back
Hold the water in the dam - put your finger in the crack
